What is Ihram?

Ihram is a sacred state that Muslims enter when performing Umrah or Hajj, symbolizing purity and devotion. It involves wearing specific garments: for men, two seamless white cloths—one wrapped around the waist and the other draped over the shoulder. Women wear modest clothing that covers their bodies while maintaining a simple and dignified appearance.

Entering the state of Ihram also entails a spiritual commitment. Pilgrims must recite the intention (Niyyah) for Umrah or Hajj and engage in acts of worship, refraining from certain activities, such as cutting hair, trimming nails, and engaging in disputes or negative behavior. This state fosters a sense of equality among all pilgrims, as everyone wears the same simple attire, emphasizing unity and humility before Allah. The experience of Ihram is a powerful reminder of the spiritual purpose of the pilgrimage, allowing Muslims to focus on their faith and connection with God.
